Raising a Glass to Our Community: Vinland Meads in the Farmers Markets

Bringing Vinland Meads to the Farmers Market: Community, Craft, and Connection

At Vinland Meads, every bottle begins with a story — and some of our favorite chapters are written face-to-face at local farmers markets. These events give us the chance to step away from the fermenters, out from the mead crafting, and into the heart of our community. They’re more than just a place to sell; they’re where we get to shake hands with neighbors, share a laugh, tell the story of our mead, and let people taste the craftsmanship that goes into every pour.

Connecting with Local Growers

Many of the fruits that flavor our seasonal meads come straight from nearby orchards, berry patches, and gardens. Farmers markets are the perfect place to meet those growers, exchange ideas, and plan future collaborations. It’s a handshake economy at its best — relationships built not just on business, but on mutual respect for the land and the people who work it.

A Tradition That Fits the Market Atmosphere

Mead is one of the world’s oldest artisan beverages, and it feels right at home in the open-air bustle of a farmers market. Just like the produce stands and handmade goods surrounding us, each batch of Vinland Mead is crafted with care, using simple, honest ingredients. There’s something timeless about sipping a drink made from honey, fruit, and water while surrounded by the hum of local commerce — it’s the kind of setting mead was born for.

Building Local Awareness

While our bottles can be found in the local wine sections of many area stores, there’s nothing quite like putting a taste in someone’s hand and telling them the story behind it. Every pour at the market helps drive customers to those retail shelves, turning a curious sip into a returning customer. It’s grassroots marketing at its most authentic.

Teaming Up with Hays Manor and Heathen Beard Company

When we set up at a market, it’s rarely just us. Vinland Meads is tied closely to Hays Manor — the farm that owns the bees and produces the rich, local honey that becomes the heart of our mead. Alongside us, you’ll often find Heathen Beard Company, who craft their beard care products using wax and other byproducts from Hays Manor’s apiary. Together, we create a market presence that’s part farm, part craft fair, and part tasting room — a living example of how local farms and artisan makers can work hand-in-hand.

The Modern Farm Reality

The truth is, a farm today can’t rely solely on cattle or crops the way it once did. To thrive, we have to diversify and innovate. At Hays Manor, that means Highland cattle grazing in the pastures, hawks in the mews, bees in the apiary, and a meadery collaboration bringing ancient tradition into the modern age. Add in the beard company’s handcrafted goods, and you’ve got a living example of how rural entrepreneurship can keep a farm not just alive, but thriving.
